This is a particularly interesting category as the Japanese market is quite unique. International banks make a play here for much of the export credit business, and increasingly for other segments including commodity and other select areas of trade finance. At the same time, they compete with the Japanese banks which have grown in strength as they push ahead in core areas of their trade scope.
So it perhaps comes as little surprise that the 'big three', Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and Mizuho, have risen to drive off the international challenge...
