The past 18 months have been absolutely extraordinary in terms of the financing and servicing of the flows of global trade.
Many institutions have had their ‘backs against the wall’ as they fought-off the ravages and downward spirals of the markets. For much of 2009, restructuring of major transactions pre-occupied many trade and legal teams. A good number of institutions were forced to ‘sit-on-the-fence’ with regard to new lendings, and for most it was a ‘back-to-basics’ philosophy. But ultimately, it is trade, and the financing of trade, that has come through to lead the world out of the crisis in its varying degrees of severity from region to region.
